About Me:

I was born in a small country of South America: Ecuador. I am Ecuadorian, Japanese (father side)…and recently a US citizen. Like many, I left Ecuador to find other opportunities abroad. As I began to find my vocation and get my training, my deepest desire was and has been to help those in violent conflict, poverty and economic uncertainty in South America and elsewhere. I worked in Washington, DC for a number of years and found myself soul searching many times as my path still didn't seem to take me to the right place.

Some of that soul searching has led me to focus on other dimensions of my life. I was brought back to meditation and yoga - practices I have loved and have been deeply grateful for since my early teens. I also began to focus on non-profit activism and volunteerism. And now, I am an elated new mother of a little boy, Nicolas Jou (03/26/06) - which by the way, will explain why I may be delayed sometimes in being in touch (please don't give up…..I love to make friends!).

So now I am a full-time mom. Daily, you can find me working on my organic biodynamic garden (I'm not an expert though….so tips are greatly appreciated), teaching yoga to my son (for now he just giggles….but that is just enough to remind me to stick in the present), knitting and learning to spin.

I decided to join Zaadz after reading an article in WIE magazine. I believe it is empowering and uplifting to get to know other people who share similar ideas and interests, always with our heart focused on how to change the world here and now.

If you want to become my friend, just send me an email! (remember, if I don't reply right away is probably because I am working on following my exploring tot).

Namaste,
Akiko
